Saturday, January 2nd (Tonight!)

In case you're feeling that metaphorical holiday hangover, I'm making two batches of cinnamon rolls for anyone who would like to join me for dessert tonight at 8:30. Call it a mini cooking club, call it my desperate attempt to have a girls night before James leaves for 60% of the month, call it one heck of a way to procrastinate all those diet-based New Year's resolutions...

Let's call it a date at my place, tonight, at 8:30. See you soon!

2015

EVEN NEWER UPDATE: Same bat-time, different bat-channel. It's at Carrie's.
UPDATE: This month's cooking club will be Saturday, November 21st at Carrie's.

So, let's just get it out there in the open... 2015 hasn't been our most stellar year for getting together. Whew! There, I said it. :)  I miss our chats and our foods and our showing each other what spider veins look like, and I even miss the birth stories (lol). How about we get together for some culinary and intellectual stimulation?

After talking with April, she mentioned that Jennie (I think!) had an idea: what if our cooking club evenings focused on some thought provoking article or Ted talk? Like a book club but with way, WAY less reading. Having a night out is desperately needed for each of us, but having a night out where we can talk about something deeper than the usual "Honey, for the last time, you cannot have spray whip cream for breakfast" or "Why won't you pee in the toilet?" that we get around the house is a giant bonus.

I'm hoping that either November 13 or 20 (or 14 & 21, if we'd prefer a Saturday) will work for us. Please comment on which days will or won't work for you, and I'll see you all later this month. And here's a 12-minute comedy/thoughtful Ted talk to get us started <insert cat poster>:

The Happy Secret to Better Work (or a better life)

The food for this evening? Please bring the dish that makes you the happiest!

Feeling a little removed from your friends?

Want a romantic dinner... but without all that romance?

ANNOUNCEMENT! ANNOUNCEMENT!

June Cooking Club - Campout Cooking!

A la "The Parent Trap" (1961, of course), we'll be having a cookout. As in, we're all gonna smell like campfire and bug repellant, and we'll probably eat a little "mountain shake-n-bake" from the firepit, but we're gonna have a great time!

(No pranks, though, ok?)

June Cooking Club: Friday, June 26, 7:00PM, Miranda's house. Firepit cooking. I'll have the grill available if you MUST use it, but I'd prefer we all use the firepit and lots of aluminum foil (I have the heavy-duty kind; you're more than welcome to use it). Bring a camp chair if you'd like to, but I've got plenty of comfy deck chairs (and blankets if you get chilly) as well.

YAAYYYY!!!

MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING!!  No, we are not doing Greek food.  IT’S WEDDING SEASON!!

It’s time to reminisce our wedding days.  Recreate food that you had at your wedding or food that you would make for a wedding.  No need for a wedding cake because Heather has so graciously accepted my request to make it for us.

Bring your wedding albums!  We’ll chat, eat, and then relive the happiest day of our life – right??  I can’t wait to hear your wedding stories. J

Should be fun!!  May  15th 7:00 Carrie’s house

*This is from Carrie, though posted under Jennie's name.

Chinese

In honor of Sarah being gone in China, let's eat Chinese. I know we wanted to follow a movie theme, but we just haven't planned well lately. And so I thought I would at least try to get us together short notice this month. Sarah and April will be out of town, but can anyone else make it this weekend? Would Friday or Saturday be better? I know my ward has a scout spaghetti dinner on Saturday, but maybe those who are attending that could come after? Let me know in the comments.

The Hundred-Foot Journey

Our theme for the year is movies. We will pick a movie that may or may not have cooking in them, and find something to make in relation. This month happens to be one with lots of cooking and with two of my personal favorite cuisines. Both French and Indian are represented, but to simplify we are going with the French side. (I'm sure I will be happy to suggest another Indian film later in the year to fulfill an Indian night.) So watch the movie if you haven't seen it yet. It's on redbox. We are changing the date and location from what we discussed last month due to some hectic households.

Paleo

Let's try this out and see how we like this new trend of eating. I call it "new trend " but isn't the claim that man ate this way from the beginning of time? Well, I'll never give up my ice cream but it might be fun for a night. We'll see what we can come up with anyways. It will be fun!!!

Kid's Food Redeux

Sometimes you just get a hankerin' for some corn dogs or mac'n'cheese. But ... it's corn dogs and mac'n'cheese, and you're an adult! Yes, it's fine to open up the blue box of cheesy goodness every once in a while, but we're good cooks, and we can do better!

This month's cooking club is Kid's Food Redeux, so find your favorite simple food from yore (or your kids' favorite recipe from now) and dress it up! I'm planning on doing a take on corn dogs, for example, with brats instead and some sort of fried coating. Other ideas might include pop corn, Jello, Kool-aid, Tang, cereal, chicken nuggests, french fries, freezer pops, and of course, mac'n'cheese.

Dressing these up might take some imagination, and I understand I'm late in posting this, so do your best and we'll have a great time even if we have to break out the hot dogs!

FYI, we'll be enjoying dinner outside (like last time) under the canopy (not like last time). I'll provide blankets if it gets cool. Friday night at 7:00. Call me, April, or Serin for an address.

November - A Sandwich

Kind of going off of Sarah's idea for a Grilled cheese sandwich night, I thought I would expand it a little bit to be sandwiches. Think tea sandwiches, ice cream sandwiches, anything between two layers.

I think we should try to take courses this time even though there will probably be a couple of main dishes. Let us know what you want to bring!

We will be meeting on November 16th at 7:00 at my house (Teri). If you need my address I can email it to you or you can get it from Sarah, Jennie, or April.
